Difference between knuckle joint and cotter joint

                    DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KNUCKLE JOINT AND COTTER JOINT


KNUCKLE JOINT


  1. It can take only tensile loads.
  2. It can permit angular movement between rods.
  3. It is subjected to bearing failure.
  4. In this no taper or clearance provided.
  5. Application :tie bar ,link of bicycle chain, joint for all shifting mechanism.


COTTER JOINT





  1. It can take tensile and compressive loads.
  2. It can not permit angular movement.
  3. It is not subjected to bearing failure.
  4. In this taper or clearance is provided
  5. Application : cotter foundation bolt,joining two rods with a pipe, joining piston rod with crankshaft head.
