DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KNUCKLE JOINT AND COTTER JOINT
KNUCKLE JOINT
- It can take only tensile loads.
- It can permit angular movement between rods.
- It is subjected to bearing failure.
- In this no taper or clearance provided.
- Application :tie bar ,link of bicycle chain, joint for all shifting mechanism.
COTTER JOINT
- It can take tensile and compressive loads.
- It can not permit angular movement.
- It is not subjected to bearing failure.
- In this taper or clearance is provided
- Application : cotter foundation bolt, joining two rods with a pipe, joining piston rod with crankshaft head.
